Brother Jineesh Mattackal was ordained to the diaconate on Wednesday, 26 October 2016 at 6.30 am by His Excellency Mar Mathew Vaniyakizhakel, V.C. The ceremony took place at N.S. Bhavan Chowara, in the presence of his parents, his brothers and many Redemptorist confreres. In doing so, he has vowed to model himself on Christ, who came to serve and not be served. Dn. Jineesh Mattackal is known as a silent listener, a thoughtful friend, and a pursuer of holiness through humility. “This is a very powerful moment for me, something I’ve been preparing myself for a long time,” said Deacon Jineesh, following his ordination at N.S Bhavan Chowara. He gave special thanks to Redemtorist Fathers, Formators, family, and friends for their support throughout his vocational call. In a homily that provided stirring spirituality and practical counsel, the Bishop reminded him that the Church is not motivated by earthly ambition, “but is interested in one thing only: to carry on the work of Christ, under the guidance of the Holy Spirit.”

Raised to the diaconate, Deacon Jineesh can now minister at the altar, proclaim the Gospel, give homilies, prepare the sacrifice of the Mass, distribute the Lord’s Body and Blood to the faithful, as well as administer baptism, and bring viaticum to the dying, etc. . He returns to Bangalore on 29 October for his B.Th. and faculty exams.
