The Young Fathers’ Meet of Ligouri Province was held at Liguori Bhavan, Mattoor on 5-6th January 2017. The Gospel attests to the fact that Jesus and his apostles took time for themselves; time to be in communion with the Father and with each other. The Redemptorist tradition attests to the need for time set apart for spiritual renewal and growth, both as an individual and as Community. All gathered together in the chapel on 5th at 10.30 a.m. for the first profession of our students. Fr. Joy Poonoly, the Provincial, was the main celebrant and Fr. Shiju Mullasseril preached the homily. The meeting was officially inaugurated by Fr. Joy Poonoly, the Provincial in the auditorium at 4 p.m. Rev. Dr. George Manalel V.C. guided us on the first day. He spoke of “Priest as a man: Challenges and helps in living consecrated chastity in an integrated way”. We ended the day with the holy hour conducted by Fr. Christy Chakkanikkunnel. With the help of the Chowara community there was  “Night Thattukada” for the participants. The second day of the meeting began with Sapra and Holy Qurbana at 7 a.m. We had an input session by  Sr. Preetha CSN on “Affective maturity and priestly effectiveness.”

Keeping in mind that sharing and evaluation ensure better functioning and good results, we had the Zero Hour. The open sharing of the young fathers, on youth ministry and vocation promotion, was fruitful and enriching. The presence of Fr. Joy Poonoly, the Provincial, and Fr. Joseph V. J., the Vicar Provincial was really encouraging for all of us. It was intended to offer structured and supportive assistant, both institutional and personal, to one fully engaged in apostolic work. Its further purpose is to continue to aid in the development of pastoral skills and to address issues of spiritual, personal, and interpersonal growth and development.
