“Every successful individual knows that his or her achievement depends
on a community of persons working together.”
A Religious is a man, taken from among men, called to help save souls. His mission is to serve humanity, so he needs to know what his flock lives through on a day-to-day basis. With this in mind, our major seminarians had a week of work camp at Amala Estate. This annual event is known simply as the “Summer Work Camp”. Their mission was to work in the rubber estate. The seminarians along with the Rector Fr. Johnson and other community members worked for eight hours a day. “It’s pretty tough digging or running behind the Jeep and a wheelbarrow for many hours, but this experience has definitely taught me to appreciate what work and poverty are all about,” one of the seminarians explained. “Besides, it is a wonderful opportunity to sanctify manual labor following Jesus´ example at Joseph´s carpentry shop,” he added.
